Anthology of early modern poetry arranged by image (maʿnī), compiled by the poet Banda ʿAlī Khān Bāsitī (alive in 1160 A.H.). A table of the poets featured in the anthology is given on ff.4a-9a. [JW, 2017].

Acquisition

Purchased by Mrs Enriqueta Rylands, on behalf of the John Rylands Library, in 1901 AD from James Ludovic Lindsay, 26th Earl of Crawford .

Script

Copied in a neat Nasta'liq. Black ink. Red ink used to mark chapter headings and names of poets.

Person: Possibly an autograph in the hand of Banda ʿAlī Khān Bāsitī.

Binding

Original binding. Leather on pasteboard. Embossed with floral and figural designs and gilded.
