Summary of Contents: Explanation of difficult words in al-Maḳāmāt al-Hindīyah (The Indian Assemblies) (see JRL Arabic MS 313 [Mingana catalogue no. 702], no yet digitised).Title: Explanation of difficult words in al-Maqāmāt al-HindīyahLanguage(s): ArabicNo author's name is found in the short preamble, but at the end on folio 10b the name Muḥammad al-Hāshim al-Darquṭniمهمد الهاشم الدرقطني occurs. According to Mingana, this person was probably the author of the work and he must have lived around 1790 CE. From the wording of the colophon it appears that the manuscript is an autograph of Darquṭni.
The number of maqamahs is written on the margins, and at the end occurs the following inscription (in the same hand): تم الاصلاح في المقامات الهندية .

Indian Nastaʿlīq script. Fully rubricated on folios 1-3 and no rubrications on folios 4-10. Broad margins.

Origin:Provenance and Acquisition
Previously in the collection of Colonel George William Hamilton (1807-1868) who served in India from 1823 to 1867, latterly as Commissioner of Delhi. He acquired over a thousand Indian and Persian manuscripts, from which the British Museum selected 352, now held in the British Library; his ownership inscription on flyleaf ia: كرنيل جارج وليم هملتن صاحب بهادر and description of the contents: لغات مقامات هندي. His label on back paste-down: Hamilton MSS 238
Formerly in the collection of Alexander Lindsay, 25th Earl of Crawford (1812–1880) Crawford, Alexander Crawford Lindsay, 1812-1880. His bookplate on back paste-down: Bibliotheca Lindesiana 3/F
