Summary of Contents: A collection of anecdotes by Fakhr al-Dīn ʿAlī ibn Ḥusayn Vāʿiẓ Kāshifī known as al-Ṣafī (1463-1532 or 3), the son of Ḥusayn Vāʿiẓ Kāshifī, who compiled it in Gharjistan for the amusement of the Sulṭān, S̲h̲āh Muḥammad.

Brown leather 19th century Indian binding with rectangular border frames, outer border decorated with stamped circular motif.

History

Origin: Undated, probably 18th century; CE ; India

Provenance and Acquisition

Formerly owned by Lieutenant-Colonel William Anderson (1803-1858) who served as Commandant of Shah Shuja's 2nd Cavalry during the 1st Afghan War (1838-1842).

Purchased as one of 25 vols for a total of £7.0.6 at sale of Sotheby, Wilkins & Hodge on 16 March 1909. Ref IOR/L/R/6/309 no 546.
