Author simply identified in text as ʿAbd al-Qādir ibn Muḥammad Akram. However, the author's fuller title is stated only on the title page
Autobiography of a late Timurid or Mughal bureaucrat and religious scholar of Ajmer and Jabalpur (b. 24 Z̤ū al-Ḥijjah 1196 / 30 November 1782, at Moradabad)
The work appears to have been composed late in the author's life, with the year 1831 being mentioned as "the current year." However, the narrative extends only until 1825
Some details, such as the names of European officers are not remembered; Captain James Tod is an exception
Numerous digressions on the ʿulamāʾ of Lucknow, Moradabad and its environs, governors of Ajmer, the dargāh of the saint Muʿīn al-Dīn Chishtī, Gond Maharajahs of Jabalpur, and so on
