1 copy of Mavāhib-i ʻalīyah by Ḥusayn ibn ʻAlī Vāʻiẓ Kāshifī

The second and last volume of a manuscript of the Qur’ānic commentary in Persian by Kamāl al-Dīn Ḥusayn ibn ‘Alī Vā‘iẓ Kāshifī (d. 910/1499-1500), also known as Tafsīr-i Ḥusaynī.

Begins with the opening of Sūrat Maryam (XIX).

Other contents: f. 1r, owner’s inscription praising God and blessing the Prophet; f. 335r, three small number squares in margin, probably talismanic; f. 335v, two circular seal impressions, both almost completely obscured.

Copied at Herat by Khvājah Jān ibn Khvājah Khvurd. The passage containing the year of copying has been partly lost and then re-written, but the date is almost certainly 5 Zū l-Ḥijja 953/27 January 1547.

Decoration

Arabic vocalised and overlined in red; Surah headings in large red naskhī. Text frames: black, gold, black, black, black, gold, black, black, blue. Fine quarter-page gold and polychrome illuminated heading, f. 1v, with heading in white.
