Petition

Contents

1 copy of ʿArz̤ah dāsht

Petition to unnamed royal addressee (with chatr) stating the receipt of reports on the disorder of palace arrangements and the addressee's distrust of attendants. Further, that the addressee (i.e. Emperor Shāh ʿĀlam) is being struck by hand and foot solely to extract objects (chīzī badast ārand). Reports the arrival of a person named Faz̤l ʿAlī Khān with several khilʿat from His Majesty. Although mentioned in an earlier shuqqah, it was thought prudent to remain cautious of imposters, as his credentials were not confirmed in the reply of the Navvāb Vazīr (of Avadh) and keeping in mind the instability of events at court. In the course of investigating his identity, it turned out that he was not only involved but lead the unseemly incident at the darvāzah of the dawlatkhānah-yi mubārak. Therefore, the purpose behind sending the khilʿat is apparent from the surreptitiously sealed shuqqah: to state Navvāb Munīr al-Dawlah Bahādur's complaints. Requests addressee to investigate whether this individual is culpable
