Sufi treatise on divine names
Contents
Treatise on mystical-theosophical description of the talismanic and apotropaic properties of Allāh’s sacred names by ʿĪsá ibn Qāsim ibn Yūsuf ibn Rukn al-Dīn ibn Maʿrūf ibn Shihāb al-Dīn al-Maʿrūfī al-Shihābī al-Jundī al-Sindī al-Hindī al-Birārī al-Shaṭṭārī al-Qādirī, known as ʿIshqī and entitled ʿAyn al-ʿUrafāʾ, and completed at Burhānpūr in 997/1589.
The treatise amplifies a shorted work, entitled Rawz̤at al-ḥusná (Ḥusaynī[sic]) fī sharḥ asmāʾ Allāh al-ḥusná (Ḥusaynī[sic] ), similar in subject and by the same author, completed in 989/1581.
Not dated at end.
Elaborate diagrams after folio 80v, although some important data has been omitted by the scribe for the sake of space. Incomplete ink drawing of a female bust, probably based on an Indian (Delhi?) original drawing or painting, on folio 115v.
Scribal nastaʿlīq, occasionally transitioning to shikastah āmīz, by multiple hands.
Occasional dense annotations in margins and interlinear spaces.
Stamped foliation.
Lacking original binding.
Binding damaged (combed marbled paper on pasteboards edged with brown leather; internal matter exposed in areas, including Persian letters and accounts for repairs?), labelled.
Folios unbound; cropped; heavily stained along upper and lower edges, fungal stains; wormholes, later repairs.
Condition fragile.
