Commentary on the Mas̲navī-'i maʿnavīof Jalāl al-Dīn Rūmī (d. 670/1271) by Hidāyat Allāh compiled from the research transmitted by his master, Sayyid ʿAbd al-Fattāḥ al-ʿAskarī al-Ḥusaynī al-Dihlavī, completed according to Levy circa 1049/1639-40 based on the authority of Aloys Sprenger’s Oudh Catalogue (p. 492).
Dated colophon to book 5 (f. 254v): completed at Shāhjahānābād, 10 Ramaz̤ān in RY 42 of Emperor ʿĀlamgīr I, (1111)/1 March 1700.
Dated colophon to book 6 defective (f. 316v): completed Friday, 4 Z̲[ī] al-Ḥijjah 11[0]3 (figures written in reverse order)/17 August 1692.
Tight scribal nastaʿlīq and shikastah āmīz. Annotations and corrections in margins.
Stamped foliation.
Lacking original binding. Binding damaged, spine intact (tooled reddish brown leather exterior embellished with medallions and outer bands of oxidised silver); doublures reddish leather.
Folios bound, but detached from covers; cropped, wormholes, later repairs.
Condition fragile.
