Commentary on the Mas̲navī-'i maʿnavī of Jalāl al-Dīn Rūmī (d. 670/1271) by Mīr Sayyid Muḥammad Hāshim ibn Muḥammad Kāẓim al-Ḥasanī al-Ḥusaynī al-Najafī known as Fayz̤ān.
The title (mentioned in a prefacing note to dafter VI) is a chronogram yielding the date 1122/1710-11.
Defective at beginning.
Dated colophon (f. 285v): completed Muḥammad Yūsuf Sihrindī, 4 Z̲ī [al-]Ḥijjah in RY 17 of Emperor Muḥammad Shāh, 1147/27 April 1735.
Rough nastaʿlīq moving to awkward shikastah āmīz toward the last third.
Stamped foliation.
Lacking original binding. Present detached boards are covered in an unusual red-green combed marbled paper. Internal matter exposed in parts.
Loose folded paper wrapper (Acquittance Roll, Law Examination Committee, dated February 1831; signed 21 April 1831, Calcutta), watermarked; torn and stained.
Folios unbound; cropped, wormholes, later repairs.
Condition fragile.
