The work was commissioned by the Kakawayhid ruler of Isfahan, ʿAz̤ud al-Dīn ʿAlāʾ al-Dawlah Fakhr al-Millah Tāj al-Ummah Abū Jaʿfar Ḥusām [Muḥammad] ibn Dushmanyār, entitled here Amīr al-Muʾminīn (d. 433/1041-2).
