Rare hagiography of the NaqshbandīṢūfī saint Khvājah Muḥammad al-Bāqī [ibn ʿAbd al-Salām] al-Uvaysī al-Naqshbandī(d. 1012/1603), better known as Shaykh ʿAbd al-Bāqī, who was also the spiritual preceptor of the Mujaddidī Naqshbandīsaint, Shaykh Aḥmad Fārūqī(d. 1034/1624), written by an unnamed author (from Central Asia) who is an ardent follower of Shaykh Burhān al-Dīn "Gharīb"and supplies valuable information on contemporary seventeenth-century social life and religious networks.

The work was written at the request of Amīr Muḥammad Nuʿmān, the khalīfah or successor of the sheikh at Burhānpūr( Deccan), begun 1031/1622 and completed after nearly two years in the vicinity of Lāhawrunder the guidance of Mawlānā ʿAbd al-Muʾmin Lāhawrī.

The work is comprised of two sections termed maqṣad with further subdivisions into faṣl, etcetera.

Dated colophon, damaged (f. 314v): completed by 5 Shaʿbān 11[0]5/1 April 1694.

Neat nastaʿlīq-i khafī.

Rebound in a IOL red leather binding, date stamped 15[05]1981.

Folios and fragments entirely remounted in new margins, with fine gauze overlay throughout. Substantial losses from margins, catchwords, and annotations; wormholes; stains.
