Summary of Contents: Untitled commentaries on daftars 1-6 of the Mas̲navī-'i maʿnavīof Jalāl al-Dīn Rūmī by Shukr Allāh (Khān), including other minor works. Volume datable to the period of the author and patron’s lifetime. Items dated in two phases: ‘early’ items f, h, and k ranging 1117-10 Shaʿbān 1118/1705-17 November 1706; ‘later’ items b, i and j ranging 27 Z̲ī Qaʿdah 1194-1 Rabīʿ al-Avval 1195/24 November 1780-25 February 1781. Main text in neat scribal nastaʿlīq tending to shikastah āmīz; other minor works in Indian taʿlīq. Rebound in a IOL red half leather binding, date stamped 23 Feb 1915. Substantial annotations and corrections in margins, with enclosing ruled frames. Stamped foliation. Discontinuous Persian foliation. Occasional use of Hindi numerals and raqm. Lacking original binding. Fragment of outer folded paper wrapper ( EICcorrespondence addressed to the Law Examination Committee, dated August 1832); watermark not visible; creased, torn, and stained. Folios cropped, wormholes, later repairs. Condition fragile.

The work is dedicated to the Timurid or Mughal Emperor ʿĀlamgīr I(d. 1119/1707), submitted through and corrected by the emperor’s early associate and governor of Akbar'ābād(Agra), Mīrzā Muḥammad ʿAskarī entitled ʿĀqil Khān the ʿĀlamgīr Shāhī(d. 1108/1696).

Dated colophon to daftar 1 (f. 80v): completed by Muḥammad Maʿṣūm, originally from Lāhawr, completed on a Thursday (date incomplete). Annotations in Arabic and Persian follow below.

Lengthy selection of verses from an unidentified daftar from the Mas̲navī-'i maʿnavīof Jalāl al-Dīn Rūmī(d. 670/1271).

Dated colophon (f. 82r): attained completion by the hand of Pīr ʿAlī, resident of parganah Hāpūr, in chaklah Sikandar'ābād, in ṣūbah dār al-khilāfat Shāhjahān'ābād, on Thursday, 27 Z̲ī Qaʿdah, in the ‘Indian’ month of Paws (Paushya), RY 20 of Emperor Shāh ʿĀlam(repeated twice), 1194/24 November 1780.
