Commentary on book 5 of Rumi’s Masnavi

Contents

1 copy of Mas̲navī-'i maʿnavī

Language(s): Persian and Arabic

Untitled commentary by an unidentified commentator on the fifth book of the Mas̲navī-'i maʿnavī of "Rūmī" Mawlānā Jalāl al-Dīn Muḥammad ibn Muḥammad Bahāʾ al-Dīn Valad Balkhī (d. 670/1271).

Although the preface is headed by the rubric sharḥ-i dībāchah-'i daftar-i panjum, this appears not to be the formal title but a descriptive label indicating the work is part of a larger series of works and, possibly, volumes.

Not dated at end; datable to the mid seventeenth century.

Excellent nastaʿlīq.

Heavily annotated in parts, with corrections in margins.

Folios detached and severely cropped.

Wormholes, stains, later repairs.

Later tooled leather binding with medallions.
