Summary of Contents: This volume features the Arabic devotional work Dalā'il al-Khayrāt by Muḥammad ibn Sulaymān al-Jazūlī (d. 1465), with an anonymous interlinear translation into Persian, with lavishly illuminated headpieces and depictions of the holy sites in Mecca and Madina placed towards the end of the second part. Unsigned and undated unidentified scribe possibly completed it in Indian subcontinent in the 18th century CE.

In good condition. Some staining and wear and the beginning and end of the text. Moderate repairs at the end.

Written in 1 columns, with 18 lines per page. Ruled with a misṭarah hand guide.

Written in a clear black naskh for the Arabic text and red nasta‘līq for the Persian translation.

History

Origin: Completed by an unidentified scribe in Güzelhısar (Aydın); , Ottoman Empire; 1163 AH (1749–1750 CE).

Provenance and Acquisition

While the circumstances under which this manuscript arrived in Britain remains unclear, collector Robert Edward Hart (1878-1946) acquired them from an unidentified source.

Bequeathed to the Blackburn Museum and Art Gallery, Blackburn, Lancashire, after the death of Robert Edward Hart (1878-1946) in 1946.
