  • Marginalia in Ottoman Turkish on the back cover reads: دارنده قضاسنده حاجی درویش محله‌سنده الوان زاده حسن افندینك خانه‌سنده ۱۲ تشرین اول پرشنبه کونی کیجه ساعت الاتورکه بره اون قاله اودایه چیقدیم حسن بك و مصطفی بکلری کوزلیوردم افندم سر محرر. (The signature which follows is illegible.)

History

Origin: Several marginalia on the flyleaves and later folios mention events which took place "Dārende ḳażāsında Ḥacī Dervīş maḥallesinde" (دارنده قضاسنده حاجی درویش محله‌سنده) i.e. in the Hacıderviş neighbourhood of the town of Darende in present day Malatya, Turkey, though it is unclear if the manuscript also originated there.; Per the colophon, the manuscript was completed on 12 Kānūn-i s̠ānī (1)226, i.e. 12 January 1812 CE

Provenance and Acquisition

Per marginalia on folio 102b, this manuscript appears to have spent some time in the possession of one Ocaḳcızāde ʿAlī Efendi Maḫdūmī اوجاقجی زاده علی افندی مخدومی of the Hacıderviş neighbourhood of the town of Darende in present day Malatya, Turkey.

Purchased from Thornton's, January 1974. Sold erroneously as "Kurdish religious poems".
