Beauty and heart, the first Turkish adaptation of the well-known allegorical novel of the Persian poet Fattāḥi of Nīshāpūr (died AH 852=AD 1448, see No. 1343 above), by Ḥasan bin Seyyidi Ḫvāce, called Āhī (who died AH 923 AD 1517), who left it unfinished; it is in prose, mixed with numerous verses, comp. W. Pertsch, Berlin Cat., p. 385; G. Flügel i. P. 419; Paris Cat., No. 358; Cat. des MSS. et Xylogr., No. 584; Asiatisches Museum, p. 207; C. J. Tornberg, No. 481, etc.; see also H. Khalfa iii. p. 67, No. 4502; Laṭīfī, p. 105; Hammer, Osman. Dichtkunst, i. p. 209, and R. Dvořák's excellent edition and translation of the Persian Ḥusn u Dil,' Vienna, 1889, p. 42. Later Turkish adaptations of the same story are by Lāmiʿī (who died AH 937 or 938=AD 1531, see Nos. 2103-2105, and 2165 and 2166 above), and by Vālī (see Fleischer, Cat. Dresd., No. 236). Beginning: بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم مطلع انوار کلام قدیم. The work ends on fol. 97a; the rest of the leaves are filled with prayers and invocations, the first of which is دعاء صلوة الصبح, on fol. 97b; a fatwā appears on fol. 99b: سابقا شيخ الاسلام اولان اسعد افندی مرحوم شاهنگی خواجه سی اولان صاری خلیفیه فتوای شریف عجم ه و پند یوزندن کوندر دکلری مفصل مكتوب صورتیدر; a few other fragements on fol. 108a, one beginning: محبت ایچون. There is also a prayer, دعاء قدح مبارك, written on the margin of fol. 1b and part of fol. 2a, and some astronomical tables appear on the fly-leaf and on fol. 1a.
