Fragment of the oldest poem on mysticism in Ottoman Turkish, in the form of a mes̠nevī by ʿAlī bin el-muḫliṣ bin Şeyḫ İlyās, commonly called ʿĀşıḳ Paşa, who died in the reign of Orḫan, AH 733= AD 1332/1333. The proper title of this mes̠nevī, which was completed AH 730=AD 1330, is that given above, but it is frequently styled also (as in our fragment here) دیوان عاشق پاشا. It contains ten babs of ten tales each; comp. on this highly important and interesting work, Rieu, p. 160 sq.; G. Flügel i. p. 615; W. Pertsch, p. 178; Berlin Cat., pp. 360 and 583; Hammer, Osman. Dichtkunst, i. p. 54 sq.; E. J. W. Gibb, p. 165; Fleischer, Cat. Dresd., p. 3; H. Khalfa v. p. 609 (where it is styled معارف‌نامه), etc. The present fragment begins abruptly in the introduction and contains the first six bābs only, viz. the first on fol. 3a, the second on fol. 20, the third on fol. 36a, the fourth on fol. 64b, the fifth on fol. 96b last line, and the sixth on fol. 131b. All the rest is wanting. A former owner of this copy was Yaḥyā bin İdrīs, who may be a son of Mevlānā İdrīs, who is mentioned in Rieu, p. 82b, as having lived about A. H.-902=AD 1496/1497.
