Persian Manuscripts

Contents

1 copy of 'Alamgir-namah by Munshi Muhammad Kazim b. Muhammad Amin.

Bound in after the front flyleaf is an index of the regnal years covered in the work written in the hand of Ellis, giving references to folios of the MS and the pages of the printed edition. The following blank folio, recto, has a note, perhaps in the hand of Ellis, describing the MS, which it sayswas bought in India by W. Beveridge in 1899-1900. It incorrectly states that it has the seal of Muhammad Shah, and, as a correction, that it was written in the reign of Akbar Shah II, which is mistakenly placed in the 18th century. F1a (as numbered): a) Note: 'Ata-yi sultani-yi TLSjani? b) impression of large round seal of 'Ali Muzaffar Khan, devotee of Muhammad Shah, dated regnal year 3 and A.H. 1133. c) Persian note of inspection, ninth regnal year. d) Signature of Ellis, with date 3.1.21. F332a. a) Note, not Wholly deciphered, written in Shahjahanabad in regnal year 6? of Muhammad Akbar Shah, referring to the writer's son. b) In the hand of Ellis: Luzac (Beveridge) 3.1.21. A history of the first ten years of the reign of Aurangzib, lacking the end of the account of the tenth year. Red headings and punctuation.
