The initial entry is written in the Library copy of Codrington. First flyleaf, verso: Signature of Andrew Gleed?, Edinburgh 1828, in pencil. Second flyleaf, recto: a) Signatures of Donald Macpherson, in Roman script, Astrachan Jany 13th 1820; faintly in pencil, Astrachan 7 Jany? year obscure; in Cyrillic script, dated Astrakhan December 13/25 1819. b) Note of Macpherson's ownership, in Persian, by the scribe of the MS. Written in distress and haste at the request of the choice Christian Donald Macpherson, resident in Astrakhan.
