F1a. a) Presented to the Oriental Translation Committee by Sir A Malet Bart b) Small rectangular seal: Charlis War Malit 1196 c) Note of price in siyaq: 5 rupees. Letters of Faidi. Collected by Nur al-Din Muhammad son of 'Abdallah Hakim 'Ain al-Mulk, Faidi's nephew. Contains the five latifahs and three mantuqahs listed in the introduction. The MS contains to volumes uniform in style and by the same scribe. The second is listed separately as Codrington/Reade 347 (2). The author, Abu 'l-Faid Faidi, was a poet and favourite of Akbar. Margins, headings and punctuation in red. Panel of simple illumination over beginning of text. Imperfect at end of the whole MS (but not at beginning).

Red leather English binding with tooled spine, the covers incorporating the leather of the earlier Indian binding, with painted decoration and applied stamps. Inside front cover: Repaired 1971.

History

Origin: 6 Shawwal A.H. 1099 (4 August 1688). Colophon at the end of the Latifah-i Faidi.
