Persian Manuscripts
Contents
1 copy of Diwan of Kamal al-Din Isma'il
The initial entry is written on a page inserted in the Library copy of Codrington, before page 545. (Some other MSS have jalal for sifat.) Ruled margins and dividing lines. Parts on pink and green tinted paper. Panel of illumination above beginning of text and illuminated circular thumbpiece beside it. Another panel of illumination above the opening of the section containing ghazals. Four miniature paintings depicting: a battle, two men fighting, a drinking party and a man throwing a rope up to his lover at a window. These are arranged in pairs, each scene facing another. Catchwords on the right hand pages show that the pictures have replaced the original text of the manuscript. The pigments are of good quality and the representation lively. Perhaps modern, perhaps not. Not included in Robinson's book
