A history of Oudh from 1136-1216, composed in 1223. Marginal notes in several hands in Persian, some glosses but also comments on content and small additions. English marginal notes in pencil. First flyleaf, recto, in English: a) Stamp, the name filled in in pencil: Presented to the ROYAL ASIATIC SOCIETY by C J Doyle Esq b) Aamaudoos Saadut or a History of the present Vizier of Lucknow this family with marginal notes 32 Rs. [Rupees] c) Title twice, once incorrectly: Madanoos Sa.audut. In Persian: description twice, with incorrect title: Ma'dan al-Sa'dat. First folio of list of contents, recto: a) Imaud oos Saadut 32 Rs. b) In Persian: note of Mir Muhammad Tahir Taliqani Irani, with comment on the abbreviated nature of the work. List of contents in five folios, followed by one blank folio, all unfoliated. F239b, under end of text. a) Impression of Persian seal of Henry BAYLU (Boileau?), probably dated 1207. (In the final passage, which eulogises Baillie, a number of his suite are also named; among the military officers is As'ad al-Daulah 'Umdat al-Mulk Sarafraz Khan SMYN? Hinri BAYLU. b) C.J. Doyle 1820. Brown leather Oriental front cover, with stamped cartpuches and gold-painted lines and borders. Red leather doublures. Spine and back cover are replacements. Written in 1222/1807 and dedicated to John Baillie, The Company's Resident at Lucknow, who had the titles 'Imad al-Daula Afdal al-Mulk Wafadar Khan Arsalan Jang. Ruled margins. Rubricated headings and punctuation.
