Excerpt from a large encyclopaedia of sciences, here comprising the fourth jumlah dealing with mathematics and geometry, compiled by Quṭb al-Dīn Maḥmūd ibn Z̤iyāʾ al-Dīn Masʿūd al-Shīrāzī(d. 710/1310), a student of Naṣīr al-Dīn Ṭūsī.

The treatise is dedicated to Dubāj, the local ruler of Gīlān province.
