A prose description of a debate on quasi-scientific and metaphysical subjects at the court of Shapur I (r. 240-270 AD) between the high priest Dādar and sages sent by the Roman Emperor Abūlneyūs (Apollonius?).

Originally written in Pahlavi, it was apparently translated into Persian by Jalīl ibn Hūshyār(?) ibn Mihrabān and further revised by Mubad Mubadān Abū Naṣr ibn Surūshyār.

Provenance and Acquisition

RSPA 119-265 were presented to the Royal Society in 1864 and 1865 by Burjorjee Sorabjee Ashburner; bookplate: "Presented to the Royal Society / by Mr. Burjorjee Sorabjee Ashburner / May 1864".

The Royal Society's collection of 280 Persian and Arabic, and 86 Sanskrit manuscripts were transferred to the India Office Library in 1876.
