Script: Fine Naskh in black ink with rubrications. Text is fully vocalised. Alternative readings marked 'nuskhah' given in margins in red ink.

Decoration

Opening ʿunwān headpiece in gold, red, and blue. Text boxes in gold, red, and black. Chapter divisions in gold and various colours. Gold roundels for punctuation. Two full-page gilded illustrations of the sacred precincts of Mecca and Medinah on fols. 10b-11a.

Binding

Ottoman Turkish (?) binding of brown leather over pasteboards. Gold-tooling of lozenges in centre and pattern round edge. Pastedowns of yellow paper.

History

Origin: Ottoman Turkey (?) Undated, but 12th/18th century (?)

Provenance and Acquisition

Note of Nardbānī-zādah Shaykh ʻAbd Allāh Pāshā, dated Dhū al-Ḥijjah 1194/November-December 1780, apparently asking for a copy to be made from this manuscript in the Holy city of Mecca.
