Union Catalogue of Manuscripts from the Islamicate World

Islamic Arabic 429 (Cadbury Research Library, University of Birmingham)

Mingana

Contents

1 copy of Kashf alʿallām fī tafsīr al-manām by Shams al-Dīn Muḥammad al-ʿUmarī

The text concludes with a 'tammat' and the date 581, but it is impossible to say whether this refers to composition or copying; on the page facing the end of the work is what purports to be an owner's note dated 1014. Both these indications, however, if they are not outright forgeries, must be reproduced from an earlier MS., for the paper of the present MS which is very thin and in various colours (bright blue, yellow, and pink) has a thoroughly modern appearance and can hardly be older than the Gregorian 19th century.
