CODRINGTON/READE NO 10. BOX 4. (Library, Royal Asiatic Society of Great Britain and Ireland)

Persian Manuscripts

Contents

Summary of Contents: 1 copy of Nuzhat al-arwāḥ by Mīr Ḥusaynī Haravī, Ḥusayn ibn ʻĀlim, 1272 or 3-ca. 1317

Not in Morley Printed Cat. Occasional marginal comments and corrections, probably in the hand of the original scribe. Front flyleaf, recto: pencil notes with description, numbers etc. Obscure notes in Persian. On gilt panel at bottom of first page of text, and repeated in margin: David Price 1798. The title 'Ara'sh Akbar in Codrington's catalogue is a misreading of 'Ara'is-i Abkar, which appears in Arabic script in the Morley Handwritten Catalogue. This is not in fact the title of the work, but a phrase that occurs near the end, where the author, having stated the true title, gives his own name and a florid decrioption of the book. Illuminated double page at beginning. Rubricated headings and punctuation. Text on gold-sprinkled paper set into margins, the joins concealed by ruled margins.

Incipit: Al-hamdu lillah rabb al-'alimin 'ala kull hal fi kull hin
Language(s): Persian
