Arabic Commentaries on the Hippocratic Aphorisms project collection
Contents
Summary of Contents: This manuscript contains commentary on the book of Aphorisms attributed to Hippocrates.Author and Bibliographic antecedent: ʾIbrāhīm al-Kīshīإبراهيم الكيشيOriginal manuscript held at Austrian National Library, Österreichische Nationalbibliothek.
This MS claims to be Kīshī ’s commentary rather than a gloss by ‘Abd al-Raḥmān al-Ṭabīb. Based on a survey of Vi1, it appears that Kīshī’s work is not a commentary (sharḥ) as much as a paraphrase of each aphorism. The introduction begins on f. 57b. The beginning of each Book is as follows: Bk1: 57b; Bk2: 58b; Bk3: 59b; Bk4: 61a; Bk5: 62b; Bk6: 64b; Bk7: 65a. Since it is a gloss, it is not clear whether it contains all of al-Kīshī’s text. The aphorisms are not cited verbatim, and commentaries on several aphorisms are omitted.
