Contents

Summary of Contents: كتاب تاريخ الباطنية للغزالي. A transcript of the unique British Museum Arabic MS. OR. 7782 Acquired in November, 1912.1 containing
al-Ghazálí's refutation of the Báțini or Ismá'ílí heresy, made for me by an Indian
copyist named Ismá'íl 'Alí in 1913. Photographs of the original were afterwards
taken at the instance of the late Mr H. F. Amedroz and sent to the late Professor
Ignaz Goldziher of Budapest In January, 1914., who subsequently published an admirable account of
this important and interesting work entitled Streitschrift des Gasali gegen die
Batinijja-Sekte (No. 3 of the De Goeje-Stiftung, E. J. Brill, Leyden, 1916).
The existence of this masterly monograph (which includes 80 pp. of selected
passages from the Arabic text) renders any further account of the work super-
fluous.
My transcript is written in a large naskh, which, like the original, is almost
entirely devoid of diacritical points, the copyist having been instructed to transcribe
the original as exactly as possible, without seeking to improve it. It comprises
252 ff. of 22'5 x 17 c. and about 21 lines, and appears to have been completed in
December, 1912, although not delivered until the following year.
