Summary of Contents: The Taʼrīkh-i Muẓaffarī by Muḥammad ʻAlī K̲h̲ān̲ Ansārī presents a history of the Timurid and Mughal dynasties to 1212 AH (1798 CE). Considered most valuable for events during the reign of Mughal ruler Emperor Muḥammad Shāh (b. 1702, r. 1719–1748) and later times. The author served as Dārūg̲h̲ah (Police Superintendant) of the Fawjdārī ‘Adālat (Criminal Court) of Tirhut and Ḥājīpūr under his patron, Sayyid Muḥammad Riz̤ā K̲h̲ān S̲h̲īrāzī Muẓaffar-Jang, Nāʾib Nāẓim of Bengal and Bihar (d. Murs̲h̲idābād, 1206 AH/1792 CE), to whom he dedicated this work. From a literary family, he was the nephew of ‘Ināyat K̲h̲ān 'Rāsik̲h̲' and S̲h̲ākir K̲h̲ān. An unidentified scribe completed this manuscript on 5 Shavvāl 1212 AH (23 March 1798 CE), and it omits later redactions that continue to 1225 AH. It thus constitutes a valuable early copy of this work, if not one of the earliest known to survive.
