Contents
1 copy of Dīvān-i Jāmī
F1a: a) In the hand of David Price: this book was purchased at Serungaputtum in July 1799. b) Note of acquisition by 'the slave of the court' at Akbarabad on 1 Rabi' II 1047, headed 'Allahu Akbar'. c) Defaced notes and several seal-impressions. Final folio, verso, on later backing: verse appropriate to the completion of a manuscript written by Muhammad Khanjahan. This MS contains two sections, the second of which has a mainly prose preface in which Jami records that in 884 his scattered verse was written down. In fact 884 in this and other MSS has been shown to be an error for 894. In either case the date is later than that in the colophon which must be incorrect, although it has not obviously been tampered with. References to the poet in the headings to many poems refer to him as alive. The first section contains the second part of the so-called first divan, containing the shorter poems, but lacks the prose preface. The section has the so-called second divan. A manuscript of good quality. Ruled margins and dividing panels. Headings etc in gold and blue. Panels of illumination above the opening page of each section.
