1 copy of A commonplace book in elongated (bayad) form

Final flyleaf: a) two impressions of small oval seal of Muhammad Husain Khan, date illegible. b) Presented to the Oriental Translation Come by Sir A Malet Bart. Front and back flyleaves have medical prescriptions written on them. Inside back cover: armorial bookplate of Sir Chas. Warre Malet. Contains poems from Khayyam, Nizami, Kalim, Salim, Sa'ib, Iltifat Khan, Hakim Rukna, Talib and others. In prose, (part of) the Waqa'i-i Ayyam-i Muhasarah-i Qal'ah-i Haidarabad of Ni'mat Khan 'Ali, letters to and from 'Abd al-'Aziz Khan (Uzbek), from Aurangzib to his father thanking him for a prayer carpet, from 'Urfi, from a Sultan of Rum etc. Some headings, punctuation etc. in red. On paper sprinkled with silver on one side, and in part with stencilled designs in gold in addition.

Shikastah, mostly in the same neat shikastah hand.

Binding

Brown leather Indian binding with stamped decoration, the doublures of red paper with stencilled flowers. This is now enclosed in a blue cloth binding with tooling on the spine, provided from the Carnegie Trust U.K. grant, 1930.

History

Origin: Probably compiled in the 18th century.

Given to the Oriental Translation Fund by Sir Arthur Warre Malet.
