History
Origin: undated, a note by the sribe states that the missing end of the text existed in the original, and that he was unable to find another copy, whence he might fill up this lacuna, though he had made enquiries in the most distant countries, until at length, says he, he was informed by certain aged men of lettres that the author had died before he had completed his work.

Bequest of J.L. Burckhardt (1784-1817) in 1819.
