Summary of Contents: A collection of anonymous poetic legends about the life of the Prophet, ‘Alī, Fāṭimah and the martyrdom of Ḥusayn in Old Anatolian Turkish or Archaic Ottoman.Language(s): Old Anatolian/Archaic Ottoman Turkish
1. folios 1b-30bAuthor: anonymousIncipit: چون یاشنده ایردی مصطفی اندی ییره ضنکه خورشید سماLanguage(s): Old Anatolian/Archaic Ottoman TurkishReferences
2. folios 31a-206aAuthor: anonymousTitle: Kitāb-ı maḳtel-i ḤüseynTitle: کتاب مقتل حسینIncipit: اوّل الله آدنی ذکر ایدالوم قدرتندن صنعتی فکر ایدالومOne of several texts on the martyrdom of Ḥusayn ibn ‘Alī which sometimes bears this title. A note on folio 205b, line 4 claims that the original mes̠nevī یدی یوز یتمش اُچنده در تمام, i.e. that it was completed between 9 May and 4 August 1369; whereas a similar note on folio 117a of an alternative version of this text in Bodleian Libraries MS. Laud 66 states the that یدی یوز آلتمش اوچندیدی تمام, i.e. that it was originally completed between 26 August and 22 November 1359. The language of the text suggests that it is the same as the Maḳtel-i Ḥüseyn popularly attributed to either Yūsuf-ı Meddāḥ, Şādī Meddāḥ, a certain Ḳasṭamonılı Şāẕī, a certain ‘Āşıḳī, or a certain Lūṭ oġlı Yaḥyā. Supporting this claim is the fact that some manuscripts with the same title (e.g. Ankara Milli Kütüphane manuscript no. 06 hk 2976/1) bear the same first couplet.
Filiation: Another version of this work appears in Bodleian Libraries MS. Laud Or. 66.Language(s): Old Anatolian/Archaic Ottoman TurkishReferences
