Administrative documents of Tipu Sultan

Folio one, verso: impression of small rectangular seal of Tipu Sultan dated 1223. The basmalah is written in bold hand in sepia, as are marks, evidently abbreviations, above and at the end of each section. On European paper watermarked with a cartouche. Stated by Morley to come from the library of Tipu Sultan. On front cover, title in Persian and Marathi, impression of heart-shaped seal: Sarkar-i khudadadi. a) A set of regulations issued by Tipu Sultan for the treasury, consisting of an introduction and thirty items (qalam). b) Towards the end of the MS, after many blank pages, there are several other similar regulations, in some cases overlapping with the earlier ones.

History

Origin: Mysore, presumably. At the end of item (qalam) 24 is a colophon dated 13 Khusrawi year 4221 (1224 backwards?). This presumably in Tipu's special calendar.
