The text of this volume continues from f136 without a break through Nos 336, 337 and 338. Presumably they once formed a single volume. F137 is a later addition, giving the end of the story in progress which is repeated at the beginning of volume II. The beginnings of the other volumes are treated similarly. Front flyleaf, verso: a) 3 Volumes 23 Star Pagodas[;] Late Major Wright's Collection (in the hand of Conwell, with his signature). b) Presented by Dr Conwell June 19. 1830 The first volume of four. A large collection of stories, many fabulous. Not the Jawāmiʻ al-ḥikāyāt of ʻAwfī; not the same as the work with this title, Ethe No 797, although some stories are common to both. Ruled margins. Headings and punctuation in red. Panel of illumination over opening of text.
