1 copy of Ḥaqīqat-i Rājah-hāyi Maysūr u Nagur

Translator: Asad Anwar

Translated from the Canarese of Patha Pandit? by Asad Anwar and Ghulam Husain at the orders of Tipu Sultan, given on 20 Dhu Hijja 1212 (5 June 1798) (As in the India Office copies) Title. The phrase haqiqat-i ahwal-i Rajah-ha-yi Maisur u Nagur occurs in the preface (f1b), but not specifically as the title. Variants appear on the flyleaves, and apparently in the India Office MSS. The prefaces mentions the translation being written in two books, which was intepreted by Morley and others to mean that there were two translations. However, this seems more likely to refer to the fact that two copies were made. First front flyleaf, recto: title in Persian (dar haqiqat-i ahwal-i Rajah-ha-yi Maisur u Nagur ) and pencilled in English. Second front flyleaf: a) Title in Persian (Ahwal-i Rajah-ha-yi Maisur u Nagur) also in English. b) Presented by Sir John Malcolm May 19-1827. First and last flyleaves on European paper with watermark of Britannia in crowned oval. A concise history of the Rajahs of Mysore from Timmaraj to Haidar 'Ali. Overlinings in red marking headings etc. Translated from the Canarese of Patha Pandit? by Asad Anwar and Ghulam Husain at the orders of Tipu Sultan, given on 20 Dhu Hijja 1212 (5 June 1798)
